The narrator has a really bad relationship with his parents. The walls are very thin so he hears his parents fight all the time and he "checked the mailbox twice a day" (s8). If he had a good relationship with his parents he would be able to talk to them about bad grades or other reasons for the school to send a letter home. His parents must also be very harsh and not understanding because he is putting in a large amount of effort so his parents don't find these letters. |
